2008-09 Recreational Soccer Season
New U5 & U6 Academy Developmental League Added

During the 2007-08 Recreational Season, SPR added technical training for all rec players U6 through U12. The technical training was taught by the professional Recreational Training Staff. The training was a huge success with players, coaches and parents. Our success in the GYSA Cup and Kohls America’s Cup was credited to these training sessions. Technical training for the U8 - U12 age groups will continue during the upcoming season. Coaches of older age teams can request to have their team join these sessions.

Academy Developmental League (U5 & U6, previously our U6 age group)

EvertonFL/SPR believes that all young players should receive a quality foundation to their soccer education. The Academy Developmental League will provide that foundation for our U5’s and U6’s.

Players will practice once a week, under the guidance of our professional Recreation Training Staff. The program is structured so that all players will be given the same program at the same time by each coach. The focus is on the individual player. Technique (skills) will be emphasized. Every player will receive a ball, as part of their uniform package, to work on their skills at home as well as at practice.

On game day, the Director will place players into teams for games. This way there are no weaker teams or stronger teams on a regular basis. There will always be room for new players. Each season we turn away young players because of a lack of parent volunteers. There will be no, or few, substitutes on the sidelines. As a former player, I never heard a player saying that they played too many minutes. However, I constantly heard them complain of playing too few minutes. Kids want to play, not sit and watch others have fun. The games will consist of six 6 minute periods of "Open Soccer". Open Soccer provides each player the opportunity to be successful.

The Academy Developmental League will provide soccer education and fun.

We are looking for coaches who have received their National C license or equivalent, have a strong background in the game, as a player or coach.

Interested applications should contact the Executive Director, Tony Paris at tonyparisdoc@aol.com or 727 514 3169 for further information on the club and opportunities for the coming season.

BREAKING NEWS
Everton FC to tour the US this Summer
Everton FC, our partner from the English Premier League, will spend part of their preseason touring the US. At this time, they have two games against MLS opposition. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 vs Chicago Fire  and Sunday, August 3, 2008 vs Colorado Rapids.
Ged O'Connor
Part of NSCAA Coaching Staff

Everton FL is pleased to announce that EFL Director of Coaching Ged O”Connor has recently accepted the position of NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Coaching Staff member. The move will allow Ged to conduct courses around the state of Florida , as sanctioned by the NSCAA.

It is a great honor for the club and for Ged himself. Having a staff member within the organization indicates where we are looking to take the club in the coming years, and with our new affiliation with Everton FC, this is now an exciting time for soccer in the Tampa Bay area.

O’Connor is not only a staff member, but is also a Goalkeeper Coach for the NSCAA also, a position that few coaches hold within the association.

He had said, “I am very excited to be working within the NSCAA and fortunate that I have the backing and support of the Board of Directors and Executive, Tony Paris, to work with the NSCAA. I am looking forward to bringing several coaching courses to the area in the coming months, with the sole aim being that of helping to improve and educate current coaches. Obviously, the ultimate aim is to make the players better and the first step is by educating coaches to make them better.”

“The NSCAA is one of the premier coaching organizations in the world, and being a part of their staff is something I have been working towards for a great deal of time,” said O’Connor.

Based in Kansas City, KS, the NSCAA is the largest coaches’ organization in the US . Since its founding in 1941, it has grown to include more than 26,000 members who coach both genders at all levels of the sport. In addition to a national rankings program for colleges and high schools, NSCAA offers an extensive recognition program that presents nearly 10,000 individual awards every year. It fulfills its mission of coaching education through a nationwide program of clinics and week-long courses, teaching more than 4,000 soccer coaches each year. More information on the NSCAA can be found at www.nscaa.com

Everton visit Puryear Park!!!!

The first of many visits by Everton Football Club took place this past week!! “Tosh Farrell” Everton’s overseas development coach hosted sessions for all players at Everton Florida .

The week started with a 2 hour presentation held at Northeast High School where all present were exposed to soccer at the next level. Over 130 people attended this presentation with an air of great excitement present.  “Tosh” informed us that 22 players have come through the Everton way training scheme, including Wayne Rooney, who “Tosh” worked with for a period of time and are playing or have played in the EPL, which has not been achieved by any other club in , Europe , or perhaps even world wide! He also explained that this is the course we will be following.

Everton FL, Executive Director “Tony Paris” had said it’s a proven formula and one we shall work with closely for years to come... Of course change takes time, but improvement will be evident as we enter a new era for soccer at our club, Tampa Bay and Florida !!

Paris ” expects a bumper turnout for tryouts as there has been a massive response to this visit from Everton from many people around the Bay area!! Please be sure to check for Tryout times and dates in Touchline and on our website.
